Between 2014 to 2019, the btg participated as one of ten selected schools in North Rhine-Westphalia in the state's five-year model project for the "Vocational High School for Engineering Sciences". In the summer of 2019, the model project was successfully integrated into the educational program of the btg.

As a new alternative, the vocational high school for engineering gives students the opportunity to acquire a basic understanding of engineering professions and activities. Students can familiarize themselves with the specialist disciplines of civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering which are taught interdisciplinary and project-based.

The model project was supported by the Ministry for Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the district governments of Münster and evaluated in cooperation with the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.
